Prana Protein Powder Review – How Promising is it?

Prana Protein Powder Review

As a fitness buff, you may have already experimented with a few protein powders to find something that suits you best. In my experience, few have had everything going for them, so I always try to get a comprehensive look at all aspects before reviewing. That’s why this review for Prana ON’s Power Plant Protein covers several aspects that affect my overall experience with the product.

I decided to try Prana ON because I saw several positive reviews and wanted to know what the hype was about. They have several variants, but I tried their Power Plant Protein Powder because I liked the combination of ingredients.

Brief Introduction to Prana ON

Prana ON is an Australian company that produces vegan and organic protein powders with all-natural ingredients. This aspect was the first thing that drew me to their offering among several with great reviews.

I have been trying to add more sustainability to my lifestyle and thought getting such a product might help. The brand promises natural and clean energy, boosted metabolism, and enhanced focus, all of which are attractive features.

They are also easily available, so I never had difficulty getting the Prana protein powder.

Prana ON has several variations of protein powders, all with different capabilities.

1. Power Plant Protein

This variant is a combination of three plant-based proteins that are perfect for lean muscle growth.

2. Phyto Fire

Phyto Fire protein powder is suitable for people on a low-carb, keto-friendly diet. It comprises plant proteins, thermogenic ingredients and superfoods ideal for boosting metabolism and energy and lean muscle growth.

3. Natural Mass

The Natural Mass protein powder is great for building mass and contains a healthy combination of carbohydrates and fats.

Now that I have covered the basics, let’s move on to the main plan. I shortlisted six key attributes to rate the protein powder on and explained below.

1. Nutritional Value

Nutritional value is always the primary consideration when choosing protein powders. Therefore, I conducted a detailed analysis of what the Prana Power Plant Protein contains. The product description mentions that this variant uses three plant-based sources of protein, and they are:

  • Rice protein
  • Pea protein
  • Fababean protein

These three sources are ideal for adding branched-chain amino acids to the diet, something a fitness trainer or athlete needs to maintain their physical health. Furthermore, this variant also enhances the production of probiotics and digestive enzymes to enhance gut health.

There is no gluten in the mix, so people with gluten allergies won’t have trouble consuming it and iron and zinc are great for body recovery.

The only concern I felt was the carbohydrates each serving of the protein powder contains. The serving size is 30gms, and between 4-7gms are direct or derived carbohydrates. It wasn’t a big deal for me but keep this in mind if you’re trying to control your carbohydrate count.

2. Instructions for Use

The instructions for use are fairly simple. You’ll get a serving scoop that you need to use to measure the powder you’re using. I recommend weighing it on a weighing scale for the first time to understand how much a levelled scoop and a heaped scoop will give you.

It will help you get a better idea of the quantity you’re getting and adjust it based on your needs and preference. They haven’t mentioned when it is ideal to consume the protein drink, but they have mentioned that it is not a meal substitute.

So, skipping meals because you drank the protein shake will leave you nutrient deficient. I make it a point to drink it an hour or so before my workout to give my body enough time to digest it and release the energy I need to power through.

3. Taste

I loved the taste of the protein powder. Prana has seven different flavours for the Plant Power variant:

  • The original
  • Rich chocolate
  • French Vanilla
  • Banana Split
  • Coconut Mylk (that’s not a typo)
  • Himalayan Salted Caramel
  • Strawberry Sundae

The Rich Chocolate flavour was my favourite from the mix, but the Himalayan Salted Caramel and Coconut Mylk are close. That’s entirely preference-based, though, so give each of them a try before deciding which one you like best.

Keep in mind that you will get a slight flavour of the plant protein used to make the powder, but that’s unavoidable. So, I expected it and didn’t factor it into my evaluation.

4. Consistency

There didn’t seem to be any inconsistency in the product functionally. Everything was packaged equally well, and the textures, aroma and taste were the same for each flavour. I’d say I definitely preferred flavours, but that is an expected outcome.

5. Packaging

I loved the packaging overall. It is sturdy and resealable, keeping the protein powder protected. It is also easy to store, so I don’t have to spend extra time worrying about how to fit in with the rest of my supplies in the kitchen cupboard.

The best part is that they have several sizes. I ordered sachets of each flavour when giving it a try for the first time. After that, I chose to get the 2.5 Kg container of the flavour I liked.

6. Availability

The Prana protein powder is available for ordering on their website, on fitness supply stores (online and offline), etc. It is easily available, so you shouldn’t have difficulty finding the product.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my experience with Prana ON’s Plant Power protein powder and would recommend that you try it as well. Or you can always check out the other two variants they have if you want a keto-friendly version or need something that supports gaining mass.
